I'm getting back into MVS but want to keep my collection relatively small and add to it over time. I thought a good way to do this would be to only pick up one game per series.

But which ones would you consider the pinnacle of each series .

King of Fighters 98
Real Bout Fatal Fury Special
Waku Waku 7
Metal Slug
Shock Troopers
WindJammers
Puzzle bobble
Pulstar
Neo Turf Master
Sengoku 3

Samurai Shodown 2
The Last Blade
Metal Slug
Shock Troopers
Real Bout Special
Neo Turf Masters
Super Sidekicks 2
Windjammers
Magician Lord

Shooters, I have had them all and found Strikers 1945+ was the one I played the most.

Puzzle games I do not play but Magical Drop 3 is supposed to be good.

Viewpoint is probably my favourite shooter.

And if you fancy a change from Metal Slug: Top Hunter is good.

Not much, I bought Art of Fighting 2 when it came out on home cart and enjoyed it at the time but I don’t think it’s aged well... 1&3 are no fun.

Garou is superbly presented, arguably the best animated 2D fighter anywhere, but it gets old quickly in play.

You need Waku Waku 7 on your list.

Metal slug, kof96 ,thrash rally , windjammers and puzzle bobble is all that's needed

If really pushed, Metal Slug, but I often change my mind between 1 & 2 (2>X).

Best fighting game on there, Mark of the Wolves.

Best sports game, Neo Turf Masters.

I haven’t played enough shmups on there, but Blazing Star is very cool...

Best of Homebrew, post Neo Geo era games is probably Kraut Buster...

But no MVS collection is complete without a full set of Metal Slug
