PLAYSTATION ANTISOCIAL VISION REDUCER

Post by skykappah » March 18th, 2016, 3:49 pm

So anybody got a preorder in for PS VR? First preorders, launch day stock sold out on Amazon all over Europe in 7 minutes. Though pre-orders are back on now. Game are still accepting preorders online but in-store you have to stump up tundred squids. Looks like this maybe the Christmas toy to have for 2016.
Can't wait for the inevitable Gravity Rush 2, Mirrors Edge and hope they get a Wipeout announced.

This and the Nintendo NX.... My family is gonna be seriously neglected.

Not thinking it's likely...

Strongly suspect they'll be some fun 5 hours for the 5 demo games that come with it, and then no vr games for a long time.... Your family will be neglected for only 1 day - not too bad :) Thought gavity rush 2 dev pretty much ruled out playstation vr but were working on another (pc) vr experiment? Might be a slew of interesting indie games, but I can't see AAA console games performing for vr.

Has anything been confirmed for NX?

I totally understand the scepticism and in no way will it be replacing Monitors and TVs screens. But it does seem like a lot of companies are pushing this tech. I think VR is going to succeed this gen because people have their faces glued to a phone screen all day long now, probably for about 10 years now. VR is going to be a seamless transition into becoming the ultimate antisocial retard that we have all been fearing.

Good on Sony for pricing this sensibly.

I would probably get one if I had a PS4.

Gravity Rush and Mirror's Edge would be vomit central on VR. Wipeout possibly would be too due to how fast it is and way the camera spins as you turn, but it's academic as they shut down Studio Liverpool a few years ago.

The really big VR games are going to be unique to and built for VR from the ground up. Adapting existing games for VR very rarely works out (trust me, I've tried), with minor exceptions like driving games or things like Rez where you can easily adapt the game camera to human head motion.

I'd love to play RezVR but perhaps not at the expense of £400, an unsightly camera stuck to my centre speaker and a helmet that makes one look like the end of a bell.

I'm waiting on an announcement from Jeff Miner...
Wouldn't mind trying before buying as don't fancy spending £400 on a new way to vomit.

Also, there's a **** of people from Leeds or nearby here, and one of the places you can try the HTC Vive headset (the Valve one) is in the Currys/PC World in Batley, Birstall retail park that I'm sure most of you are familiar with. Prolly going over there on Sunday afternoon to see if I can get a go. :hinthint:

Uhm, I think the new Zelda is more or less confirmed for it and could even be a launch title.

I'm still on the fence as to whether VR is the future of gaming or just another fad they roll out every couple of decades like 3D. I'm leaning towards the latter. People like to veg out when they're gaming. Nobody wants to wave their arms around or even wear special glasses so good luck with the Daft Punk hat.

Will those goggles account to people wearing glasses?

RezVR is the price of an extasy.
I already played RezVR many years ago.

On the fence is a good place to be. VR will never takeover a large displays for multiple viewers. It's simply not practical for us as human beings, at least that's what I think for now. I do think though that VR compliments gaming and gives people an extra option to experience gaming and most likely movies, differently.
As for it being a fad... Well I don't think it matters too much for me as long as the PS VR can pump out around 20 games that are worth buying in it's life time.
It's the experience more than anything else.. I mean, look at us in this arcade hobby... we've bought an arcade cabinet (or cabinets!) of which we play a few games on and the prices are phenomenal compared. £500-700 for Astros, Over £1000+ for MiniCutes, Neo 19's and E2's.... Around 2k for Vewlix's....
Also bear in mind that this is the beginning so yeah they are big and cumbersome. If it's a success then they can get to the stage where the tech will be smaller and cheaper as with all technology. If the aesthetics of a VR helmet makes or breaks this tech, then that's a shame and it's not something that can be overcome if even "special glasses" aren't acceptable. It's not like there's a dildo above the visor.
