Pincushion

Post by kernow » May 8th, 2009, 4:15 pm

Why would it need to be at its absolute limit in order for the edges to be straight? surely you'd think it'd need to be in the middle or thereabouts.

I'm going to try more tweaking this weekend, setting it to the middle then seeing if I can then correct that with chassis pots so that the pincushion on the remote board is more central and therefore has more scope for adjustment. :awe:

Doubt it'll work but eh.

because the chassis is not perfectly matched to the yoke
pincushion range can be recified by changing a high voltage cap or resistor, depending on circuit

The chassis and tube are from the original monitor now I changed the chassis. :)

So I would indeed imagine they are matched if they came as a whole original monitor from a cab once. :)

The answer to what.

Why would it be like that on a stock monitor?

Because they're not the greatest monitors in the world.

I honestly can't remember if it was like it with the other chassis or not.

oh well I'll fart about and see what I can do.

You still playing then mate? :D

I thought this week of spanking out on a new monitor and re-read all the old threads (inlcuding one of mine) about monitor tweaking as well. Decided to get a proper test card up on the PC and alter the pots that way. Just spent the last hour tweaking and the colours are 100% perfect (as far as my eyes can tell). Time well spent and whilst the focus is not 100% perfect (I put that down to the tube quality), it certainly is not worth me throwing another £400+ to get another monitor & chassis. I bet 90% of arcade monitors in the 90's were not as well set-up as this one is now anyhow. lol

I think I was being way to anal..... but then perhaps I find the tweaking is actually better than the playing. :D :D

Hope you finally find some peace mate. :)

Be aware kern that pincussion often needs adjusting when switching from 15-31k so you don't want to adjust something that limits what you can do with the remote board if you ever get a high res system.

Probably won't be getting a 31k system anyway matey , this is the vert cab.

I'll have a go tomorrow with it probably, I don't think that should be the correct operation so if I can middle out the pot on the remote for it I'd be happier.

Btw, cools said about testing it in 31k to see how it operates also. It could possibly be me when I plugged the chassis in when switching it over, but I doubt it as the remote pot does operate the correct function, its just odd how it performs.
