PS3 to Trisync

Post by CPS2 » February 14th, 2009, 10:00 pm

I've read quite alot about hooking up a PS3 to Vewlix, but has anyone ever hooked up a PS3 to a Tri Sync monitor. What's the best way to do it??

Either a Component to VGA adapter or the wii/ps3 VGA cable doing the rounds (on ebay) will allow for connection to any crt/lcd monitor. 480p on NTSC machines and 576p on Pal machines

Hmmm, I thought that 576p wouldn't work on a trisync (480p) monitor??

I think it depends on the monitor (essentially its still 31khz after all). It works in 576p on the stock Sanwa in my naomi (31khz only)

Well... 576p (at 50Hz) is a 31kHz resolution (just as 576i is a 15kHz res, as is 576p25), as is 480p (at 60Hz). However, just because they are both 31kHz resolution, doesn't guarantee all monitors will display them! :D

As analogue signals, rather than digital:
480p = 525 lines x 59.94kHz = 31.468kHz (31.5 / 1.001 kHz ish).
576p = 625 lines x 50Hz refresh = 31.25kHz.

And if you are feeling geeky, the standard you want to look at is ITU-R BT.1358 Studio Parameters of 525 and 625 Line Progressive Scan Television Systems. You have to pay to get it, though, and it's mostly tech jargon :{
