Blast City Nanao MS-2930 Issue

Post by Jamie » August 17th, 2011, 2:14 pm

Hi All

I have a Blast City with a Nanao MS-2930 installed which seems to have some geometry issues. I'm a novice when it comes to monitors, so would be grateful if someone would be able to give me some advice.

When i put a test grid up i notice that whilst the top and bottom seem ok, the left and mainly the right are bowed.

Here is a close up of the right hand side

It's also doing this to the top left of the picture and to a lesser extent the right.

Image

In anyone's opinion is there anything i can do to rectify this issue, mainly the bowing which is the main problem? Or is it in need of some sort of repair.

Thanks

Is this fairly straight forward mate? I know there are supposed to be some adjustment pots on the chassis board but i've never been able to find them. Although the monitor is pretty dirty so they may just be under some of the crap on it.

Managed to find the pots after finding a Blast City manual online. After adjusting the pots you mentioned i've managed to get it better, not perfect but as good as i think it's gonna be. Can't seem to fix the problem in the 3rd picture though, but that's not really that much of a pain. Thanks mate.

that's a convergence issue. I'd suggest you leave it really.

You can mess about with magnets on the back of the tube but I would guess in play it's not very noticeable

Not really, just a slight discoloration at the very top of the screen, i was more bothered about getting the geometry as good as possible.

The third picture shows a convergence issue, very common on Blast City (Nanao MS-2930) monitors.
I have it, and it makes the corners pretty blurry. Need to fix it myself sometime, but havn't gotten to it.

Some people had succes fixing convergence issues by adding magnetic strips to the back of the monitor.
But you better use search or Google it, because I never actually tried it yet :)

Good luck!

I've used magnetic tape to fix that in the past.

I dunno this might sound stupid, but it's worth a shot.
Have you tried lifting up the CP and hitting the deguase button?
When I do it on my Blast, it shakes the whole screen and fixes any discoloration or offset. Just a shot in the dark. :?

Those strips aren't the easiest things to find though :|

I just taped some flexible cardboard to bits of adhesive magnetic tape and was able to mess a bit with convergence on that kind of monitor, too. I never bothered to do the whole thing, just got the worst corner of it to a passable level - I found it hard to balance convergence correction with geometry distortion. That video made it seem quite a bit easier than I found it to be... Maybe proper strips would have made it easier, lol

If you live in the USA, you can get them from Wells Gardner. They are called yoke tabs. The part number at Wells Gardner is: 009A2808-001
They cost 50 cents each. Hope that helps people in the USA.

I'm a little tech savy, i would say. Is this a pretty easy fix? I've worked near bare monitors like this in the past.

Convergence strips will work, it's just time consuming to get them all just right.

Sorry to interfere in the topic but I need help

I have the same problem described here on my blast city nanao 2930.
I thing I managed to find the pots in the chassis to register pincushion and trapeziod, the problem is they are nearly impossible to reach!
Are they located near the vga connector right?
I can't reach them without touching the chassis and I'm a little bit worried to put hands inside while the cab is on.
Is it completely safe to do it??

Please help ;)

Take out the monitor and work on the pincushion and trapezoid adjustments that way. Easiest way to do it is to put the cab on it's back when trying to get the monitor out. Have the monitor out of the cab is the only way that I know how to fix convergence issues with those strips. Impossible to get it done when it's inside the cab. The same could be said about your adjustments on your Nanao 2930.
