Monitors, monitors, monitors

Post by skykid » October 21st, 2008, 7:28 pm

On the back of Grantspain posting doom messages regarding the death of CRT's, I've got the scares on now.
Can anyone help with these noobish questions:

1:Which is the best, and cheapest brand new monitor going for the Egret 2?

2: If I just have a monitor unused sitting around in storage until the current E2 one packs up, it won't die over the years its not being used will it?

3: I still don't know what the 'chassis' for a monitor is or does. Do I have to buy one with a every new monitor I purchase?

4: What's the general lifespan on these monitors? My folks had an old CRT TV that lasted for 30 years. My E2 is played normally for about 30 minutes per day and off the rest of the time. What kind of lifespan are we looking at for these things?

5: Finally, how hard is it to change a monitor. I heard the suction cup on the back will kill me.

Uhm theres a monitor Q+A section now, after the rejiggle :)

only certain monitors will fit the egret2's rotate mech. To be honest 30min a day on your cab is nothing and its going to last a while, its not crappy wei-ya components.

Yeah, an unused monitor isn't going to die suddenly in a shed if stored correctly (out of moisture / damp or whatever).

That suction cup covers the anode which if not discharged correctly can give you a nasty shock, indeed, but as long as you're prepared and do some reading on how to discharge a monitor - you'll be fine.

A monitor refers to the Tube and the Chassis, the Chassis is the electronics that does all the .. stuff.

Cheers matey!

Thanks for the info Kern, that's pretty helpful. I got my E2 on the final cab order before KC went under, not sure on the monitor make, but I think it's meant to be pretty new.

I wonder what'll happen when I can't replace the monitor anymore... Ah well, I suppose some of those old woodies have been going for yonks, so its got some life in it for sure.

Cheers mate! ;)

Hi sky if you have no screen burn ,You will never need a tube unless you neck it .
Answer to question 1 is in grant's q+a pages
Answer to question 2 is no it wont pack up if kept dry .
Answer to question 3 is no .
Answer to question 4 is you will die before it would at 30 min everyday
Answer to question 5 yes if your stupid but as your not, no it wont if you look in q+a its in there

My advice by a spare chasis if you dont have much or no screen burn

I've got an issue where the stupid wei-ya chassis in my AWSD's will inevitably die because they are ****. I sold my spare one too, woo!

I'll probably wait until it happens then panic then, lifes too short, livin' on the edggge. :awe:
