VOTE NOW. Post count for marketplace access?

Post by cools » September 10th, 2017, 4:43 pm

This is a common setup on other forums that we are considering here. Note that a single post is already required for Marketplace access, we are just considering raising it.

Once the poll is over we'll take everything into consideration before implementing any changes, and you'll be given plenty of time to get your post count up legitimately if that's the way things go.

I think it would be a good idea, but, for example, my counter marks 2 posts but I posted many more posts than that.... I think it's a buggy thing....

Nope. Posts in the marketplace don't count, because of the auto purge.

Maybe 25? As long as this place doesnt eventually turn into NeoGeo Forums Market place im ok. I tried to get involved there cause the size and the market place listings are generally close to home but lurking around the market posts it just sounds like ill get bullied as being a market leech unless i have like a 1000 post count which is rediculous and I know that might not be 100% true but thats how it felt so i doubt ill do any transactions there soon...

If this is directed at me LOL  :awe:. Im just saying this forum seemed very inviting when I first came along and that how is someone supposed to get into the hobby more if you cant eventually find a way to get more hardware with out jumping through major hoops. I love this place everyone's super friendly and awesome (and im not saying people at the other forums are not that but some shine brighter than others). There's lots of great contributors and I try to help when I can too. But once I finally got more comfortable and used the market place it only made the experience that much more fun and insightful. Shrug just my two cent.

Police the rules when you have to though ofc nothing wrong with that. 8-) ;)

How many posts do you need to vote on this thread :awe: .I've said 100 but that's a lot I know maybe 50 is best , I just wish people were more about the hobby and post a bit more but it a problem with all forums . People are friendly here for the most

I found it annoying on Jamma+ when the 10 post limit often led to new users spamming their way to 10 posts to get to the marketplace (i.e. bumping 10 old threads with the same 1 line response). I guess it depends if the mods don't mind the extra work of filtering out people who are doing that, because you can bet they will. :problem:

I voted 50, we would need to add in a rule about not spamming to artificially push your post count over the threshold.

The marketplace should be a member benefit, not the entire reason for running the forum. For some people that's all the forum is.

Remember you can change your vote should you need to vote tactically towards the deadline.

I think 1 post is good enough. Otherwise you get ppl posting a lot of nonsense just to get the count up for the marketplace.

Im gonna say that if its not broke, don't fix it.

That being said, I keep up with AO, Neo, KLOV, and ArcProj, at least every couple days, if not every day.

I do float in the markets mostly, but do my best to share info, or chime in on things where I have the time, and the knowledge, outside of them.

We don't really have anything but our rep....and even if you have 1,000 posts, you can still be a dick...or be bad for the market.....and you can have 2 posts, and still provide a good home for someone's sale item, or have something worth selling here that people need.

Pushing folks out of the market, drives those buyers and items to ebay, and other places, where the price is usually higher, the risks of **** buyers and sellers is definitely higher, and the group mentality that exists here is totally gone.

No one wants leaches, but being overly protective of the market is just as bad. All of us would like to see new items in the market, and all of us are looking for that next board, or part, or poster...whether we can afford it at the moment or not. Putting all of that behind a huge post count, will slow the influx of new stuff, or people sharing their collections or items at all....and the market will stagnate. We are a niche market to start....any stagnation here will be harmful to the community in the long run.

I dont have the years here that alot of folks have, but I have years in the hobby, and in the business, so let that count for what it may.

That's my 2 cents....like it, love it, or leave it.

I think 50's reasonable. There are too many members that are here just to sell their **** or swoop in to buy stuff without contributing anything to the forum.
