Blast City Header light

Post by imjasonmh » November 30th, 2011, 9:10 pm

My light is toast. I replaced the starter and bulb and am still getting nothing. I found a link telling how somebody replaced the light with an off the shelf kit from Home Depot, but I am in need of a better tutorial. Preferably one for somebody who hasn't done this sort of thing before. Any help? Thanks!

Is it plugged in?
FWIW, I've replaced my light and starter with the proper replacements, and it all worked no problem.

When you say "plugged in", did you mean up top? there are 2 wires coming out of the marquee light that plug into another cable that goes down below. I am using an FL20T12 lamp. Is that correct? In another thread, somebody told me to use an FL20T10. Is that my problem?

The Blasts use FL20T10 bulbs.

So this is probably my problem? A FL20T12 will definitely not work? Even though it fits? I had a link to a supplier, but they want 15/ea with a limit of 25 dollar purchase, so I was thinking of buying 2. But I want to make sure this will hopefully fix my issue.

I don't know if it "definitely" won't work with a FL20T12. It sounds like maybe your starter is dead.

Moving further down the list, your ballast could be bad. Has it ever worked since you got it?

Awesome. Didn't know the bulb was a hard one to find. I took mine out and kept it out for a long time now. Around winter or when it starts getting cold again, I will put the light back in. But out of all my cabs, my Wizard or Wor Cabaret is the only machine that I have the marquee lights on/in. It gets to hot otherwise, and I don't find a need for it to be on anyways.

It hasn't. I tried asking Ken from thegameroom to help, but he hasn't offered any (asked for help soon after purchase and never received any). I just received a new bulb and it still isn't working. I replaced the starter as well. How can i tell if the ballast is bad?

Thanks, i thought about this, but i have been trying to keep this as close to original as possible. I will definitely bookmark this though!

Is a replacement ballast for this expensive/difficult to replace?

No. It's easy to replace.

Because we wouldn't want the non-Blast owners to feel left out and deprived of the sexiness :awe:

The starter is an FG-1E bulb.

That would be the one.
Though a little google-fu would net you a much better price.

I found one and went ahead and ordered it. My light doesnt light at all so hopefully this will fix it! It was the cheaper of the two in regards to ordering a bulb so hopefully it will fix it!

You should replace both the F20T10 and the FG-1E if you're unsure of their condition.
Keep in mind as well that the FG-1E last much longer than an F20T10.
