Problems with NeoGeo 38-in-1 cart - SORTED

Post by chubsta » October 2nd, 2008, 12:14 pm

OK, hopefully this thread wont descend into a slanging match about such things!...

Ive just got the cart, put it in my 4-slot, and it came up with the list of games. Chose Metal Slug and it play fine. trouble is, it says to get back to the menu i have to hold the 1 and 2 player start buttons for 2 seconds, but this doesnt have any effect. So at the moment i have got a metal slug cart!

Anyone else got one and have any ideas - i am using it in a 4-slot Lordsvale MVS cab BTW

cheers!

I know its a stupid suggestion, but you could take the cart out and do a button test in your MVS test menu, I know they probably work, but hey. :?

Can't think why else it'd not exit, unless it means select or test or something.

Yeah, cant see how its not working - in the HW test both buttons show as being pressed and held in at the same time. Another problem ive just realised is that when i switch the machine on it goes in the menu and its not possible to get access to the other games that are plugged in.

The 'test' switch doesnt seem to work when the cart is in menu mode, although it works fine when ive chosen a game and allows me to change the sw dip settings for that individual game. When i go out if the 'test' settings to, its straight to the game with no chance of the menu again...

Are you using one of these??

http://www.jammaboards.com/store/neogeo ... d_198.html"

#
Corrects Test switch positioning so the JAMMA cabinet's Test switch will function properly with the MVS.
#
Adapts the NeoGeo MVS ‘Game Select’ Up/Down feature to work with the existing JAMMA cabinets Player 1 & 2 first shooter buttons, eliminating the need to install new selection buttons.
#
Routes the NeoGeo MVS 'D' Button from each player to matching connection on JAMMA side (Pins 25/cc).
#
Optional Test and Service/Credit hook-ups are located directly on the MVS to JAMMA adapter board.
#
Simple design allows this adapter to easily be placed inline between your JAMMA connector and your NeoGeo MVS 56-pin connector.
#
Mounting holes are located in each corner, making for an optional strong cabinet installation.

I understand that these will "remap" the MVS to the jamma so that the reset works properly.

its in his lordsvale MVS cab, which is wired for MVS, not JAMMA :)

I know its cliched, but this is why I don't bother with these things. heh :awe:

I hope you get it working, are you trying it in a multi slot at present? I don't know if people beforehand have only used one slots or something.

You could fit a universe bios in your MVS motherboard, reset the whole board with start+ABC to bring up the menu, then reboot in that menu, then you'd be back to the menu again I guess?

Maybe a thought if you can't get START+START for 2 secs working

I'd imagine they are identical.

No graphical glitches, shared samples, slow down, random re-setting etc?

Well come to think of it I get that on the originals :?

heh, an MVS cart is just a load of ROM really, I'd imagine mostly they are no different. Apart from the rom hacks such as MS6, KOF2005+, crouching tiger hidden dragon and all that ****. But then thats all garbage anyway, you always get a few of them on these multi carts though, as they must share certain ROM's with the original games that are also on there, that they ripped off in the first place. I'd imagine those would be a mish-mash of sound samples and whatnot , but thats being true to what they were anyway. One of them has backgrounds from alpha2 in even. hah

Seems pretty faithful so far, alhough i reckon the sound on Blazing Star is a bit weird - still, for the price you cant knock it, and i knew what i was getting...

Of course, i own each of the carts individually and only got this one so i didnt have to take the origionals out of their protective casing Mr Copyright Law Lawyer Sir! :D

Although the sticker said i needed to hold both 1 and 2 player buttons down for 2 seconds, its actually just the 1p button for about 5 seconds... This gets me back to the menu and then i have to hold the 1p button 4 down to give me the option of the other games in the slots - not elegant but i guess it works...
