WOW, very cool find! Congrats!

Oh, this is so exciting :awe:

Wonder if it works with encrypted files?

I doubt though it could give new leads as to how to fix dead boards  , but it would be great.

I don't think Razoola gives much of a **** about CPS2 anymore. He's certainly not creating new Phoenix ROM sets, although I bet he'll still accept payment for games he's already done.

For the record, another user here (whom I won't name unless he wishes to come forward in this thread) and I are actively creating new "clean" decrypted sets - for free, I should add. We also have some interest in the security key programming protocol for the encryption keys so that dead games can be re-flashed with the with the security data rather than using hacked ROMs. This board might be useful.

Ah, thanks god - I thought with the phoenix fix available, nobody would care anymore.
Had I any idea about this stuff I'd be happy to help.

Yeah, it's not going to happen overnight; it may take a couple of years of on-and-off spare-time research/dicking around, and it may amount to nothing, but we certainly have a degree of intention.

This is beyond awesome, I don't know if you're planning on it but dumping the eproms would be great :).

Guys over at assemblergames.com should also know about this if it isn't already the case.

Seriously, **** that site. Keep it off there, or Capcom will likely want it back.

That's excellent what you guys are doing. For me, original is always preferred so if there was a way to reload the security keys to revive a board that would be awesome. The phoenix roms are better than a dead board, but I would greatly prefer a simple unencrypted revive rather than adding all of the extra splash screen, jukebox, etc.

Hey idc, is there any chance you have unencrypted roms for Mega Man Power Battle CPS2? I have a board that is still alive, but my friend has a dead board and Razoola never did a phoenix for that game since there were so few made.

Afraid not at present. I'd consider it a priority title however, but it almost certainly won't be an easy one to do. It might not be one I can do myself, but the mysterious "other guy" involved here may be willing to take a look. For now, consider it on the "tentative list". ;)

Sweet. :awe:
I've found.. let's call it a remake of Razoolas hack.. with the "Phoenix" logo replaced with "Conversion" text. (The functions seem to all be there, music- and sfx-player and so on.)
But a cleaner set would be awesome. I wish I had the skills...

Wow, that's great !
Thanks for the work and effort you put in this project!

I wonder if and how the phoenixed files, Razoolas dead-battery check file and your cleaned files will work on Richy's board.

Also, I wonder if:
a) Capcom send a dev board, that could potentially fix dead boards, to developers - after all I'd assume they consider that their business and would want to be as secretive about it as possible, OR
b) Capcom sent decrypted program files to the developer - and risking someone re-engineering the encryption algorithm this way, if anybody was bothered to do so

Hmm...

All speculation at this point. Let's wait until Richy receives the board.
