which is the most powerfull ?

Post by erzane »

hello everybody
I would like to know for sure (detailled technical explications please)
which machine is the most powerfull between :
Xbox360
ps3
lindbergh
typex2

I dont like consoles but I heard about that the modern console machines are more powerfull now, yes I know that but I dont think a ps3 or a xbox360 can be more powerfull than a Lindbergh and a typex2 (or a 357).
the arcade machines have more advanced technology not ? just play a VF5 on arcade and after on ps3, you will see big the difference (everybody can tell me the opposite, I cant trust it because they just want to have the game cheaper as the arcade game, that's the reason why they told that the ps3 version is the same..)
perhaps the processors are the same or I dont know more, but I m sure that the arcade systems have something more than the consoles.

thanks for explications

Depends on the usage really, The dual 1.8GHz PPU cores of the PS3 would get eaten alive by a modern X86 CPU. On floating point math and if used properly, I think the PS3 might wing it ,but I'm not sure overall, it depends on the actual utilisation.

Probably between Lindbergh or PS3 though I guess, if I had to (wow just checked the specs and lindbergh runs on Linux, I wish Lindbergh got as much exposure as Naomi but it seems only SEGA really use it) I wonder if thats because of licensing costs, or just because taito typeX2 is just cheaper and easier to develop for, better SDK etc.

:?

I do however think a dual-core SEGA Europa-R would eat a PS3 for breakfast.

I dont suppose theres too much difference between the 360 and the PS3. I cant see games developers having 2 dedicated teams making 2 inidividual games for each platform when they can just make it for one and port it over to the other.

The only games i assume you could compare a machines performance with are the 1 console releases such as Gears of War etc

What would you compare it to though ? surely it's easier if its not an exclusive, then you can see how it runs on both.

The fact is I guess, most multiplatform releases are very generic and not tuned to the individual hardware at all. I guess you have a point where with exclusives you can see the hardware being utilised correctly at least.

Graphically, I'd say Lindbergh.. As Sega push the limits 100%, PS3 developers are lazy ****..

The new VF5 will make SF4 look like a ZX81 game..

On paper PS3 is the most powerful, but PS3 = good media player and nowt else..

And yes Europa-R PC board is the top notch, but that is because it is using fairly recent off the stock PC parts, if you got money, you could build a PC off even superior spec.. but hey-ho PC games are let down the fact they have to work on the average joe setup.

But.... nothing beats Vektorlogic raptor system, most powerful thing known to man or beast.. :o

Europa R is Sega Europes hardware http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=907"

PPU is the physical processing unit, the PowerPC based core of the Cell Broadband Engine CPU in the PS3, it has 7 Synergistic Processing Engines (SPE's) that you offload jobs to with the PPU, if used correctly the SPE's running @3.2GHz can do massively powerful floating point operations.

X86 CPU = Intel x86 (pentium, etc) CPU, commonly found in desktop computers and laptops.

SDK = software development kit (The libraries used to develop the game software)
