Any good hires vertical shmups?

Post by The Enigmatic Form »

I´m thinking about rotating the screen of my Egret 3 to be able to play vertical shmups again. I was a bit tired of them for the last months, but somehow my interest reawakened.

As I have a TypeX as well as a Naomi GD here, I would be interested in getting a game or two for them.

I thought about Homura, Gigawing Generations or Under Defeat, but I really lost track of the available games, so I´m thankful for any recommendations.

I like Psikyo and am decend at playing them, but I also played quite a bit of Cave games and Raiden Fighters Jet. I like it fast, hard, and sometimes as much as possible at once. :awe:
Never got into Raizing stuff, though.

all the shmups for type-x are good imo (i have all of em), pretty good system all things concidered actually. :)

raiden 4 and gigawing generations are proboably my faves tho.

Naomi has a bunch of good shmups aswell, i never liked milestones shooters (radirgly etc) but other than that you cant really go wrong there either.

Can't go wrong with Under Defeat, Shikigami No Shiro 2 (both naomi) or Shikigami No Shiro 3 (Type X)

Thanks guys! :)

Ikaruga is a fantastic game, but it´s not my cup of tea, I am somehow not able to really play it, the colour changing just overwhelms me.

I watched a few movies of the various games and I think I will go with GW Generations and Homura first, as I liked them best.

Is it complicated to get into GW Generations if I haven´t played the other games of the series? Many people seem to dislike it, but I´d say the inferior port is to blame, isn´t it?

I kinda like the Strikers 1945 games. They're Psikyo aren't they?

Hello by the way. :)

Don't judge GWG on the port. Raiden IV is better though. Shiki III aint bad but II is better. I'd rather chop my male chicken off than play Homura.

haha its an accuired taste i guess, its VERY takumi-style with bullet reflection and stuff all the time, i quite like it but i can see why someone wouldnt.

if you dig mars matrix and all the gigawing games chances are youll like Homura as well.

As it would be VERY hard for me to do without CvS2, Z3U and Strikers Plus, I´ll probably leave the screen horizontal. The problem is that there are fewer shmups to select from, and I´m not sure if there are any which could fit my taste.

Are there any games of the "modern" kind which you could recommend? Unfortunately there very few vertical scrolling shmups on a horizontal monitor (can only think of Gigawing 1 & 2 and Strikers Plus), so horizontal scrolling could be an option, too.

Decisions, decisions. :(

Great games, however he's looking for hires.

Speaking of naomi shmups, doesn't g.rev have a sweet looking vert shmup on the horizon for Naomi? I forget the name...

For a good Naomi vertshmup, i would give Trizeal a try. Classic but fast, with tons of secrets.
