Shmups for n00bs (tate only)

Post by Akuma » October 4th, 2010, 9:36 pm

Yeah, so if I should suddenly decide to start playing shmups... Which are good easy beginner games to play for getting into the "scene" and practice bullet dodging? Tate titles only please and must be in Mame ;) :awe:

Dodonpachi and Guwange would be a good start.

Isn't DoDonpachi too hard already?

Took me 8 credits to clear Batrider normal course on easy dip setting :?

Gekirindan - It's seriously easy, but has nice Dodonpachi-style graphics and similar gameplay style albeit toned down. Same goes for Vimana with auto-fire enabled.

Storm Blade
Twin Cobra (use the blue shots)
Gemini Wing
Out Zone (it's great but can be a bit hard until you've "loosened up" a bit) :awe:

I'd add Progear No Arashi to this for a top 3.

I like Strikers 1945: II best myself. The bullet patterns aren't as dense as the Cave shooters but they move pretty quickly so it's not exactly easy mind you.
