Re: Bubble Bobble Bootleg info

So are you saying that you'll be releasing a Redux version with the test screen/input tests fully working? Or am I reading your message wrong? That is correct! :-) This functionality is broken in the bootleg base patch. It is something useful to make sure the board works properly, so I think it mak...

Re: Bubble Bobble Bootleg info

Just programmed up a set of the latest Redux for a bootleg I've repaired and tried to put it into test mode - All DIPs off except SW1 bit 3 - that brings up the test grid. However, pressing P1, P2 etc doesn't do anything (pressing P1 should bring up the input test screen for example). Swapping in t...

Re: Bubble Bobble Bootleg info

I can buy this boot: http://www.crazykong.com/pcbs/A%20-%20F/BubbleBobbleBL56pin.pcb.html" this is the 56pins boot pcb. do you have this one ? is it ok for conversion ? The one you mentioned above seems to be the non-JAMMA 56-pin version (based on the fact that it has a connector adapter). Mine is ...

Re: Bubble Bobble Bootleg info

The only thing I see is the white ghost enemies who have slightly different patterns but is not easy to see. Try to compare my inp file with my replays. Can you confirm that the roms can run on every boot pcb ? the single and the double boards ? I will try to take a closer look at this white ghost ...

Re: Bubble Bobble Bootleg info

But you are right about one thing: I have never encountered the error in level 1. Sebastian, if you are unable to fix the HW issue, you may always patch the image "bb5" at offset 0x428e with a 0x00 (the current value it 0x80). This should change that dull red to black, making the strips go away. Th...

Re: Bubble Bobble Bootleg info

I get vertical red lines under the moving objects, and on the game over screen the whole screen is filled with them. After restarting the whole machine, the error goes away and does not come back most of the times. Please refer to Bubble Bobble schematics. RAM chips 83/84 on the video board hold th...

Re: Bubble Bobble Bootleg info

By the way, regarding the score save adapter, you may be able to dispense with soldering with the tips below. 1) Just twist the solid wire around the socket pin and cut off the excess (the socket shown is just an example, not the correct size for the mod): http://i1308.photobucket.com/albums/s603/Pu...

I have a non-JAMMA single board and a JAMMA double board, both have worked fine.

It is very likely that yours will work too, unless it has a MC68705 processor. Good luck!

Re: Bubble Bobble Bootleg info

Thanks for your help, burned the correct eproms and now everything is working nicely, besides some graphical glitch (red vertical lines) that are a fault on my board some time. But that is another story. By the way, is there any way to make the Lost Cave version play on the bootleg board? Please po...

Re: Bubble Bobble Bootleg info

Instructables on how to put together the adapter for the high score save mod. 1) You need two "stamped" type 28-pin sockets and some "wire-wrap" type solid insulated wires; cut the wire to the size shown below and bend pins 1 and 27 from one socket to about 45 degrees: http://i1308.photobucket.com/...

Re: Bubble Bobble Bootleg info

This would be :awe: for the original board set 8-) The problem is that changing the ROMs may trigger the "anti-tampering" traps. It is like walking in a mine field, every code change may trigger one and trash the game. There were quite a few of those that had to be disabled in the bootleg images. T...

Re: Bubble Bobble Bootleg info

I finally got the AT28HC256 memory that I needed to implement a high score save prototype! This Atmel chip is a special type of EEPROM that may be written to by the CPU itself. It has a slight different pinout to accommodate the write signal, so I had to create an adapter to re-route a couple socket...

Simon is the official tester for this patch! I would also love to see him playing... :-)

That golden door issue is a side effect of the level skip feature. I will fix it and release a new version soon. Thanks for catching that!

Re: Bubble Bobble Bootleg info

while i was cleaning my bubble bobble bootleg pcb, i broke a pin of the eprom number 2... This is the EPROM for the audio CPU. Re: Bubble Bobble Bootleg info

No, it is still stuck. If I had to guess, I would say one of the EPROMs is fault or not well connected, most likely "bb5", since the other two should be good for the code to reach the point were that initial message is displayed. By now, I think very unlikely that the patch has some HW dependent is...
