Re: Wtb Sega Naomi 1 mobo

Error 03 means the board cannot read the main serial ID. Your best bet is to reprogram the EEPROM to see if that changes anything.

I'm trying to avoid taking everything out the back to put back in if I can help it.
You'll have to accept the fact that taking parts out of the cabinet is unavoidable for a deep repair situation. It's much more worth it in the long run.

Re: (Hotd). guns aren't working.

An update thanks to those who have helped so far, With brightness high, there's clear screen burn, blue gun fires centrally but not in any corners. Reds still dead. The blue gun itself is okay (I'll explain why later). The red gun maybe has a disconnected wire inside the gun harness/hose. I would s...

Re: Naomi 1 Fan broken??

Ouch. This looks like a literally broken GPU. Mame describes the GPU as a "VideoLogic/NEC 'CLX2/HOLLY' chipset and PowerVR2 GPU (large BGAxxx, with heatsink and fan)". We already know how difficult the process of applying a BGA chip is but finding a replacement chip is already difficult enough (for ...

Gunslinger Stratos Local Multiplayer?

Many Round 1 locations have at least two of these machines "linked" (I do see ethernet cables from the machines connected to a hub). All of the machines (at least near my R1 location which has four of them) seem to do their own thing and won't communicate with nearby GS machines. Is there some sort ...

Re: Virtua Racing freezes

Have you swapped either the fans or power supplies on both sides to see if the issue switches? I'd also check voltages coming from both PSUs as well. Most likely either too much voltage causing the boards to heat quicker or the fan is worn and isn't supplying the proper airflow. That is the first th...

Re: Namco Time crisis 2 Issues

https://github.com/mamedev/mame/blob/master/src/mame/drivers/namcos23.cpp They are located near that large custom chip, C412. This specific one you need to look at is located at 13A. It's most likely either a broken solder trace or a faulty chip. I don't have a System 23 PCB with me atm for some goo...

Re: Magicgate Tekken 4

Does the game play blind? If so, then the system works but the monitor you are using isn't compatible. It would require some video converter to convert the signal from 15k to 31k. If not, then reseat the dongle like I mentioned earlier. If that doesn't work, then I would check all inside boards for ...

Re: Magicgate Tekken 4

Namco System 246 to be exact. Tekken 4 normally runs at 15khz/standard resolution and heard running that game in 31khz/VGA res won't work. Verify all DIP switches are set to "off" and the video connection is normal as opposed to forcing a VGA connection. Also, do you hear any beeps when you start up...

Re: Naomi 2 Strange behavior

It could be a voltage issue (3.3v to be exact). Make sure the dimm board is getting the proper voltage needed (I'd adjust the psu to 3.4v just in case). You should properly clean the cartridge contacts on all three motherboards too.

Re: Naomi 2 Strange behavior

You should check the jumper settings on the Naomi 2 motherboard and compare them to the ones that work. I'm dealing with two non working Naomi 2 motherboards right now.

Re: Sega Model 3 video issues

Nobody has any suggestions for replacing the case fans on a Sega Model 3? C'mon guys. I'm certain one of you has replaced them before and the factory fans can't last forever.

EDIT: May take a look at the whole pcb set one day so I can find out what fans are used.

Re: Sega Model 3 video issues

Lowered the +5v and +3.3v down to near normal values. The issue got worse a few days after with the game freezing ~20 minutes after startup. My next step is now to check all boards and replace the fans.

These chips are bespoke parts and aren't used on anything but NAOMI, Dreamcast and Atomswave.
I couldn't find BU1428, but I did find quite a few BU142* datasheets. Has anyone actually contacted ROHM to ask for a replacement part for BU1428KS?
I should have mentioned "BU1426KS" as well.

Re: Sega Naomi 2 Ramdac issue

I still have my n2 mobo that boots to a black screen , assuming it’s the two rams , I think ic107 and 108 (under one of the gpus). I got a spare n2 mobo for 5 bucks locally, but had a cap broken off, it would boot to some fuzzy stuff but did show life. Found a spot to connect the cap to since one o...

Sega Naomi 2: No power at all

Different Naomi 2 motherboard, different problems. I was under the impression the fans on that motherboard were bad due to loud/worn out fans (any Naomi related system won't boot with a bad fan). Turns out that wasn't the case. This motherboard doesn't get any power at all (no lights and mb fans won...

Re: Sega Model 3 video issues

My most likely guess is a certain component eventually shutting down from improper voltage and/or overheating. My next steps are to reseat/clean all the roms on the rom board, check/adjust power supply voltages and replace both fans. I'd appreciate any good suggestions for Sega Model 3 fan replaceme...

Sega Model 3 video issues

Game: Lost World Jurassic Park After a few hours, ~6-8 hours, of uptime, one of these 3d issues would happen: The female T-Rex would load wrong textures on some parts of the jaw and inside the mouth. The 3d graphics would flicker. No 3d graphics would show at all. My initial thought was the boards w...

Re: Sega Naomi 2 Ramdac issue

Reverse engineering has been done already. I thought you just wanted to fix your board. Look for the DC HDMI thing. I was under the impression that if reverse engineering had been done, then I would have started repairs on my N2 weeks ago and this thread wouldn't exist. That for some reason isn't t...

Re: Sega Naomi 2 Ramdac issue

Buy a Dreamcast with broken drive and salvage it from there. Someone clearly didn't see a small part in my last post. Reverse engineering that chip for reproduction would be crucial at this point. This is especially the case for arcade hardware that wasn't common to begin with like Namco System 22.
