Was going to mention Surugaya too. :)
Good shout. It's mainly a home console-based store, but they have some good arcade stock in the back corner, too. I've bought some very reasonably priced Naomi carts there in the past. Picked up a MvC2 for about £40 last year, I think!

Re: Best place to buy shmups in Tokyo?

Good news is that Tokyo will have pretty much every console-based shmup you could want for sale *somewhere* in the city. The bad news is that in literally every case you will pay eBay prices or, in many cases, more. You're at least ten years too late if looking for Tokyo bargains on desirable old ga...

Re: advice for buying Pc to run steam games in a vewlix cabinet

I recommend picking up an Alienware X51 R2 . It's a few years old, but is more than powerful enough to run all Steam shmups and fighters at maximum settings. It's also a small form factor, and comes in a case that will fit perfectly inside a Vewlix on the shelf. One of these will set you back about ...

Re: Natsuki Chronicle

have been enjoying this the past couple of days. Their games always strike me as slightly ropey at first, then get their hooks into me, and this one is no different.

The rechargeable shield mechanic (which works in places of lives) is *excellent* and, as far as I know, completely new.

Sister Royale (PS4/ Switch) - Alfa System's first game in 12 years

New shmup from Alfa System coming to PS4/ Switch on Jan 30th (for Europe, at least).

Looks similar to Shikigami no Shiro, which is unsurprising as it's the same dev...

ZeroRanger (+running on cab)

Finally got around to playing ZeroRanger, which I noticed a bunch of the members over at the Shmups forum have been raving about since its release last year. It's a TATE STG with chunky pixel styling, but there's a lot more going on than in your typical pixelart modern shmup. Controls are extremely ...

Re: Crimzon Clover - World Ignition (Out now on Steam)

Amazing shmup, and the Steam version is worth it for the global leaderboards.

If you run a PC with Big Box in an HD cab, it's one of the essentials.

What's a reasonable price for a 3rd Strike version? I've seen two in the past 12 months, one for £400 and one for £950?!

Sailor Moon came out 1 year before Air Gallet. So it is likely that they just used the same PCB stock and covered it with a sticker.
fwiw SNK used to do this with neogeo games too: converting unsold stock of old games to newer ones that had similar chipsets etc.

Re: Vewlix Models Ranked

the 1080p replacement Screens from Taito are probably an "older" Revision of the LG Panel in the DIA Black, maybe the same, who knows. Out of interest, is there a model number for the Panasonic screens you're referring to? Were they available to consumers, or something Panasonic made specifically f...

Re: Vewlix Models Ranked

ha! I know there's always going to be personal preference involved in any list, but I was just interested in hearing people's opinions. I was assuming the 1080p screen in a Vewlix C or F would be the official one from Taito, which I know a number of people have imported and installed. The C and the ...

Vewlix Models Ranked

Seems like it's a good time to buy a Vewlix cab right now: the machines are old enough that operators are letting them go, driving prices down to, as far as I can tell, their lowest yet. Soon enough I reckon prices will start to climb again as the consumer market gobbles up this stock. As such, I've...

Re: Flyback sourcing

I enquired about an original Windy flyback with them. The guy wanted £75 upfront non refundable before he would even confirm they had stock. The guy in this thread however had a much better experience. https://forum.arcadeotaku.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11337 Yikes. I guess, as these parts fail over ...

Re: Flyback sourcing

Thanks Zak. They have a pretty unorthodox business model: you email in what you're willing to pay for the part and, if they think it's acceptable, they get back to you?! Anyhow, have sent an offer. No idea how much something like this should cost though. Fingers crossed.

Flyback sourcing

Gah - the flyback in one of my cabs has failed completely so I need to source a replacement. Google isn't being much use. Does anyone have any recommendations for places that might sell one? First time this has happened to me and I'm slightly concerned my cab is going to be out of action for months ...

Capcom Mini Cute Tubular Lock question

Bought a couple of replacement tubular locks for my MiniCute. They fit the holes perfectly but, when I actually looked at the mechanism, I realise that a standard tubular lock doesn't have the right shape bar to actually hold the front door shut (see below). It looks like it needs a dog leg-shaped b...
