the DVI-D port actually does pass HDMI audio if your passive converter populates those pins.
HDMI digital audio is transmitted over the 3 main TMDS lines during video blanking; it doesn't require extra pins.

Monitor is probably toast.

Check if the neck glows orange when powered on.

Re: 29" NANAO 2931 Tube Heater Short - What Happened?

That's interesting. How the heck did you identify the faulty SMD cap? Which sub-board was it? It wasn't me who performed the repair. Just going off what I remember the repair technician told me on the phone. But I did burn through something like 3 or 4 tubes before identifying the exact cause. The ...

Re: 29" NANAO 2931 Tube Heater Short - What Happened?

For me it was an SMD capacitor on a sub board that was causing HV to spike, which arced the neck and shorted out the tube as well as cracking the glass by sheer force of the arcs. I'd recommend taking off the tube, doing a full recap (including all sub boards), and checking HV before attaching a new...

+1 on Guacamelee. The original is great and the sequel is even better. It can just be really difficult at times (not to complete, but the optional side challenges are just brutal).

Re: New PC, any good games to play?

I'm currently playing through Doom (2016) for the third time. First playthrough was Hurt Me Plenty, second time Ultra-Violence, and now trying my hand at Nightmare. Gameplay is really solid and it's gorgeous even though it's a few years old now.

Re: Trying to figure out proper isolation transformer setup (Monitor and house voltage different from cabinet)

I would say the monitor is the only part of an arcade cabinet that is possibly in danger if fed too much AC voltage. The marquees and lights can basically run on any voltage (due to how a TL lamp with ballast works), and the JAMMA power supply has adjustable output voltage. So if your monitor is rat...

Re: Trying to figure out proper isolation transformer setup (Monitor and house voltage different from cabinet)

Wall/surge protector -> Isolation transformer -> Step down transformer -> Arcade cabinet AC plug -> adapter -> monitor chassis A step down transformer acts as an isolation transformer. An isolation transformer is just a 1:1 winding transformer, meaning the input and output voltages are the same. Th...

Where do you see that username? The original listing has long since been deleted. I'm going off what I remember seeing when it was still up.

The listing is for an unused RMBK-1000 graphite block from a different plant (probably Leningrad as the lister's username looks Finnish). It's a publicity stunt that looks like it worked by all the inter...

What surprises me is Tetris, as that cart was basically pulled before reaching store shelves due to licensing issues back in the day. It's super rare so it's arguably not even a classic MD game. Super cool that they included it anyway though (and indicative of potential relaxing of Tetris Company's ...

I remember first seeing that monitor announced and thinking to myself "you could play tate or yoko without rotating the monitor ever again". Definitely something to look out for on surplus eBay listings if only for the exotic factor.

Heh, figures that everything above 19" is widescreen. You're probably better off with a low lag gaming monitor and an OSSC if you must absolutely replace your cab's CRT with an LCD.

Re: Billy Mitchell's a cheat.

Without trawling the relevant megathreads, did he at least play in the same style as he did on the tapes? Because nobody before or after him has played like that, and the amount of luck needed for his chosen strategy is one of the reasons that makes his runs being tool assisted so likely.

Isn't the 2932 the same curvature as 2930/2931/2933/2934?
No. I made the mistake of assuming that once, and experienced the practical result myself. Bezel doesn't fit and it's visibly curvier.

Re: You've Got Grail! The Valuation Thread

How much should I ask for a faulty MV1F with Unibios? I've had some troubleshooting done on it and determined that the watchdog is triggering a constant reset (if you turn up the audio you hear pop, pop, pop, pop), but couldn't find a root cause beyond that. Visually the board looks okay. I personally ...
